Real, fixed prices for building a web app, iPhone app or Android app in Austin, what drives the cost up or down, and how to budget for the first year.
"How much does an app cost?" is the first question almost every client asks, and the most common answer online is "it depends." That's true, but it isn't useful when you're trying to plan a budget.
So here are real numbers: the fixed prices we charge in Austin for web apps, iPhone apps and Android apps, what's included at each level, and what makes a project cost more or less.
The short answer
| What you're building | Typical scope | Fixed price | Timeline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Web app (launch) | An MVP to validate your idea with real users | from $4,900 | 3–4 weeks |
| Web app (growth) | Production-ready, with payments and an admin dashboard | from $12,900 | 6–8 weeks |
| iPhone app (launch) | A focused native app, live in the App Store | from $7,900 | 4–6 weeks |
| iPhone app (growth) | Full-featured, with in-app purchases and offline sync | from $16,900 | 8–12 weeks |
| Android app (launch) | A focused native app, live on Google Play | from $7,900 | 4–6 weeks |
| Android app (growth) | Full-featured, with Google Play billing and offline sync | from $16,900 | 8–12 weeks |
| Web + iPhone | Both, sharing one backend and user accounts | from $11,900 | 7–9 weeks |
| Web + iPhone + Android (launch) | All three platforms, launched together | from $18,900 | 10–14 weeks |
| Web + iPhone + Android (growth) | A full product on every platform | from $39,900 | 14–20 weeks |

Why quotes vary so much
If you've asked a few agencies, you've probably seen quotes from a few thousand dollars to well over six figures for what sounds like the same app. The difference usually comes down to four things.
1. Scope: how many screens and features
The biggest driver is simply how much you're building. A focused first version with 6–8 core screens costs a fraction of a full platform with 30 screens, roles and permissions, and reports. The cheapest way to build an app is to launch a smaller first version, learn from real users, then add what they actually use.
2. Platforms: web, iPhone, Android or all three
Each platform is real work:
- A web app runs in any browser, on any device. It's usually the fastest and least expensive place to start.
- A native iPhone app (Swift) and a native Android app (Kotlin) each need their own interface, built to their platform's design rules and store requirements.
- Combining platforms costs less than building them separately, because they share one backend, database and user accounts. Our Web + iPhone + Android package costs less than three separate apps.
3. Integrations
Connecting to other systems adds time: payments (Stripe), email, maps, calendars, or your existing business software. Integrations with ERP systems such as SAP, inventory or procurement are quoted after a discovery call, because every company's setup is different.
4. Who builds it, and how
- Freelancers are often cheapest per hour, but you manage the project, testing and handoff yourself.
- Large agencies bring big teams, and big overheads to match. Account managers, project managers and multiple layers of review all show up in the price.
- A small senior studio like ours sits in between: you work directly with the person doing the work, at a fixed price.
What should be included (and often isn't)
When you compare quotes, check whether these are included or will be billed later:
- Design: screens mapped and a clickable prototype approved before coding starts
- Testing: a real test plan run on actual devices, not just "we'll check it"
- App Store and Google Play submission: store listings, screenshots and review back-and-forth
- Post-launch fixes: a support window for bugs found after launch
- Code ownership: the code, designs and accounts should be in your name
All of our packages include these. Every app is tested on our in-house test management platform against a full set of scenarios, and you get the test report at launch.
Budget for the first year, not just the build
The build is the biggest cost, but it isn't the only one. Plan for:
| Ongoing cost | Typical amount |
|---|---|
| Hosting and care (server, backups, monitoring, updates, developer on call) | from $99/month with our managed app hosting |
| Apple Developer Program (required for the App Store) | $99/year, paid to Apple |
| Google Play developer account | $25 one-time, paid to Google |
| Improvements after launch | Most apps add features based on user feedback in the first year |
A simple rule: budget 15–20% of the build cost per year for hosting, updates and small improvements.
How to get an accurate number for your app
- Write down the one problem your app solves and who it's for.
- List the must-have features for the first version, separate from the nice-to-haves.
- Decide where your users are: on the web, on iPhone, on Android, or all three.
- Book a free discovery call. We'll recommend a package, or give you a fixed quote for anything custom, usually within one business day.
